Slope is a mathematical term that is used to describe incline or steepness. An easy way to think about slope is to imagine walking up a hill or a mountain. For every step you take going forward, you are also reaching a higher elevation.  If you walk two feet forward and you are standing on ground that is one foot higher than where you started, then you are walking on a slope of  2 (or 2/1). If the elevation increases by one foot for every 3 feet you walk forward, then the slope is 3 (or 3/1) and so on. As you can see, slope is the distance you walk divided by the increase (or decrease) in elevation. It is a good way to measure how steep a surface is.
