Native Species

Native species are species that naturally occur in a specific area. These species are part of a balanced ecosystem where each species relies on others. A healthy ecosystem has a lot of biodiversity, and the growth of each population is limited by predators and limited resources so that no species will take over. When invasive species are introduced, this balance is threatened and biodiversity often decreases as native species disappear in an area because of their inability to compete with invasive species.
