Biodiversity is the variety of plants, animals, fungi and even small, single-celled organisms like bacteria, which live on our planet. When you walk through a forest or go into the swamp, you will see lots of different types of plants and animals. All of these living creatures rely on each other to survive. Humans also rely on many different plant and animal species on the Earth for food, medicine and many other purposes. Because of habitat destruction and human development, many different species are not able to survive and they become endangered or extinct. This decreases the planet’s biodiversity and puts all of the remaining species, including humans, at risk
