The Red-eared Slider Turtle is native to the Southern United States. In Louisiana, the Slider is considered threatened. This may be partially due to the fact that these turtles are sold as pets across the country and even internationally. These turtles spend most of their time in the water but will leave to nest or find another water source. Their diets consist mainly of aquatic vegetation.
The Red-eared Slider hibernates in the winter by covering himself in mud at the bottoms of a slow-moving body of water.
