Threatened, Endangered, and Introduced Species of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin

Manatees do not have eyelashes, but instead have a membrane that protects their eyes under water.

My name is Manny, and I am a Florida Manatee (Trichechus manatus)!

Did you know that after nearly 100 years of absence there are now manatees in Lake Pontchartrain once more? What a cause for celebration!

Learn more about manatees by rolling your mouse over my picture to the left!

And welcome to the seventh chapter of Lessons on the Lake, Ecosystems in Delicate Balance. We'll learn about biodiversity, endangered species, decision-making and make a portfolio about these survivors.

Are you ready? All right! Let's get started!
