Like many other turtles, the lifespan of sliders is fairly long. In captivity, sliders can live for 40 years or more. Chapter 10
The History of the Basin

Hello!

My name is Tracy, and I am a Red Eared Slider Turtle (Trachemys scripta elegans)!

We're the turtles you see diving off of rocks and logs when you come by. We're generally quite shy, but a lot of kids keep us as pets-- more than any other turtle! Learn more about turtles by rolling your mouse over my picture to the left!

And welcome to the tenth and final chapter of Lessons on the Lake, The History of the Basin. We'll hear 'The Lakes of Pontchartrain', a traditional folk song; learn about our own history; create journal entries from long-ago people, and have a wetland quiz show!

Are you ready? All right! Let's get started!
