University Counseling Center
Welcome Message from the Director and
Staff of the Southeastern Louisiana University Counseling Center
Welcome to the University Counseling Center
(UCC) at Southeastern Louisiana University. We provide free mental
health counseling services to students, faculty, staff, and their
legal families. Staffed by four licensed mental health
professionals, the UCC offers individual counseling, group
counseling, couples counseling, and family counseling as well as
workshops and consultation. The University Counseling Center is
accredited by IACS, the International Association of Counseling
Services.
Our goal is to facilitate
self-understanding and empowerment for all clients. To this end,
we strive to assist clients in identifying and then resolving
those challenges that impact their lives.
We believe that counseling can
help individuals learn about themselves, their environment,
and their methods of handling roles and relationships. Through
counseling, clients will have the support of a counselor as well
as the freedom and the opportunity to determine how they wish to
resolve the challenges facing them.
Counseling is confidential. However, we
are legally bound to report potential suicide, homicide and
suspected child/elder abuse. The staff adheres to the American
Counseling Association’s ethical guidelines (http://www.counseling.org/).
The University Counseling Center does not
provide counseling through email or other electronic means.
Our Mission Statement
The mission of the University Counseling
Center is to enhance lifelong learning by meeting the mental
health needs of the students, staff, and faculty who seek out
services. In addition, the UCC strives to provide a state of the
art training facility for graduate students in the human services
field.
