SLU PROVOST NAMED COLLEGE PRESIDENT IN WEST VIRGINIA
Provost Ron Zaccari has left Southeastern to become president of West Liberty State College in
West Virginia.  He will become the college's 8th president.
     In accepting the position, Dr. Zaccari stated that he and his wife are enthusiastic about
serving West Liberty State College.  There are many genuine individuals on the campus," he said,
"who will serve to help lead new initiatives and renew the foundations which have brought West
Liberty to this point in its rich history.  We found a profoundly deep dedication to West Liberty
and its future.  I sensed a need for new leadership with emphasis on shared planning and
governance and vision. We left our visit to West Liberty with respect for its tradition, its people
and its future.  
     West Liberty is a four-year, state-assisted college with an enrollment of about twenty-five
hundred students.  It is one of ten institutions in the State College System of West Virginia.  
     Dr. Zaccari has been member of the Southeastern faculty for 19 years. He has served as
head of the visual arts department, dean of the College of Education, assistant vice president for
academic affairs, associate provost for academic and student affairs, provost and vice president
for academic affairs and professor of art.
     Now at age 58, Zaccari says he is fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a college
president.  SLU has been an excellent training ground filled with valuable experiences," he said.
"I ve learned from former presidents and I ve currently gained much respect for Dr. Clausen s
leadership. She is intelligent, a good listener, and an action-oriented person."
     Southeastern president Sally Clausen praised Zaccari's service to the unviersity.   Dr.
Zaccari has a love for this institution that has been apparent for nineteen years," Clausen said. "As
Provost, he has carefully guided our academic path resulting in a process that has always included
faculty, staff and students.  Dr. Zaccari has tremendous rapport with the academic community and
I know he will be an excellent President for West Liberty."
     Dr. Zaccari will continue in his position at Southeastern for the next few months.  He will
officially begin his presidency at West Liberty College on July 1.
