SLU SPONSORS YOUNG MUSICIANS' SUMMER CAMP
HAMMOND -- The ninth annual session
of the Southeastern Louisiana University
Young Musicians' Camp, open to pianists, wind instrument or bowed string
instrument players,
will be held July 7-18, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at Southeastern 's Ralph R. Pottle
Music Building.
The camp, administered by the
Southeastern Community Music School and directed by veteran Southeastern
music professor Jerry Voorhees, is open to students in the fourth through
tenth grades. Age and experience requirements from string or piano players
are more flexible.
Cost for the camp is $275. A
$75 non-refundable deposit is due on June 21, and the $200 balance is due
at registration on July 7. The fee covers tuition, recreational activities,
daily lunch and dinner, and insurance. Families enrolling more than one
child in all-day sessions will receive a $50 discount per student.
Activities include band, small
ensembles, evening recitals, choral singing, music theory, private lessons,
and recreation, including swimming at the university pool. Instructors
will be university music professors and students and area music teachers.
A morning only program is open
to young string and piano players. It will include private and group instructions,
music theory and choral singing. Cost is $125 ($40 deposit). The family
discount is not available for the morning program.
