LOCAL YOUTH SHOW THEIR TALENT IN YOUNG AUTHOR'S CONTEST
     HAMMOND   Winners of the Young Authors writing contest sponsored by the
Southeast Louisiana Reading Council will be honored at Southeastern Louisiana University on
May 15. 
     The students in grades kindergarten through high school along with their teachers will
receive recognition for their achievements in fiction, non-fiction and poetry writing categories at
an awards tea scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. in the Cate Teacher Education Center Kiva.
     Schools participating in the Young Authors program were from Tangipahoa, St.
Tammany, and St Helena Parishes.
     Winning students and teachers are:
      Southeastern Lab School
     Kindergarten -- Michelle Zurco, fiction; Corinne Kirkland, non-fiction; Patti Gautreaux,
teacher. 
     First grade -- Parker Derenbacker, fiction; Hailey Nagim, poetry; teacher, Joanne
Showalter. 
     Third grade --  Amber Leon, fiction; Travis Howard, non-fiction; Emily Robbins poetry;
teachers, Marilyn Burt and Theresa Tageant.
