SLU WORLD WAR II EXHIBIT TO CLOSE JUNE 25
HAMMOND Area residents have just a few more days to view "From Piney Woods to
Killing Fields: Louisiana's Florida Parishes and the Challenges of World War II" which has been
on exhibit since April at Southeastern Louisiana University's Center for Regional Studies.
The World War II exhibit, which has attracted nearly 2,000 visitors, will close Friday,
June 25, said Samuel Hyde Jr., the center's director.
The exhibit includes weapons, uniforms, photographs and documents highlighting
American and Axis fighting power and honoring area combat veterans.
The exhibit can been seen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. The Center for Regional
Studies is located on the second floor of Southeastern's Sims Memorial Library.
Hyde said the exhibit's archives and oral history program, which is recording and
preserving World War II combat veterans' memories, will continue as long as veterans are
interested in participating. Those who want to share their memories on tape can call the center at
504-549-2151.
