SLU'S WEST ST. TAMMANY DIVISION CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's first-ever capital campaign,
Commitment to Excellence, has raised more than $8.8 million toward its $10.75 million
challenge goal with more than a year left before the campaign concludes.
Commitment to Excellence exceeded the base goal of $6.75 million shortly after the
official kick-off was announced in February 1999, said Joseph Miller, vice president for
university advancement. Three phases of the campaign involving contributions from university
faculty and staff, the Southeastern Development Foundation Board of Directors and donors in
Tangipahoa Parish have been completed to date.
Meanwhile, the West. St. Tammany Division of the campaign got underway in February.
Division chairman Joe Luquet of Mandeville said that since $310,000 has already been
pledged by area friends and alumni, "We're going to shoot for $1 million."
"As a team, we can pull the people together to meet this goal," he said at the kickoff at
Benedicts Restaurant in Covington. Fundraising for the West St. Tammany Division is being
coordinated by Rebecca Tucker, Southeastern's assistant vice president for development.
Future campaign divisions will include Washington Parish, Baton Rouge, New Orleans,
and foundations and corporations. The campaign is officially scheduled to end in spring 2001.
