SLU HOMECOMING CONTEST WINNERS
HAMMOND -- Among the crowds who enjoyed the spirit, sunshine and success of
Southeastern Louisiana University's 1996 Homecoming on November 23, few could have been
happier than Anita Landry and Jude Anthony Pisciotta.
Landry, a junior psychology major from Destrehan, and Pisciotta, a nine-year-old from
Independence, were in the right place at the right time to really enjoy the Saturday event. Landry's
lucky catch of a Frisbee-sized "doubloon" during the parade and Pisciotta's choice of a seat at the SLU
Lions vs. Loyola basketball game made them the winners of Homecoming's two big promotional
contests.
Landry caught one of 20 special doubloons thrown in the parade to determine the winner of a
pair of airline tickets donated by USAir and Courtney Travel. Along with 15 others, she brought her
prize doubloon to University Center for the grand prize drawing and kept her fingers crossed during
the halftime drawing. Parade grand marshall and former SLU athletic trainer Grady "Doc" Morgan
picked Landry's name out of the hat.
The lucky draw will make a dream come true for Landry, she said. With transportation costs
covered by the prize tickets, she and her best friend, Doris Jeanes, will now be able to swing a long-
coveted weekend in New York City.
"For two years we've been wanting to do this!" said an excited Landry, clutching a super-sized
replica of the tickets she'll receive. "We know all the words and lyrics to (the hit Broadway music)
'Miss Saigon'."

SLU HOMECOMING WINNERS -- Add One
"Sit still!" is one of the hardest command for a child to obey, but Jude Pisciotta, the son of
Madelene and Ronald Pisciotta of Independence, wouldn't have moved a muscle at the Homecoming
game if he had knows what was coming.
Shortly after Morgan pulled Jude's seat number from the hat making him the winner of the
attendance contest prize, the youngster wandered out of his seat. Luckily, he was back in it in time to
be informed by Kathy Pittman, director of Alumni Relations, and Kim Hunter, President Sally
Clausen's executive assistant, that his name had been chosen to win $200 for himself and $200 for the
SLU program of his choice.
Madelene Pisciotta, administrative secretary for Southeastern Athletics, loyally said that the
athletic department would be her family's choice for the $200 donation. Jude said his $200 share will
go into his savings account. He's saving up for a go-cart, he said.
The Student Government Association was a double winner in the float category of the
Homecoming parade. SGA won first place for the float the organization's members built for the
Homecoming Court and third place for its own float. Second place when to Theta Phi Alpha fraternity.
In the car category, Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Tau Gamma sweetheart took first place with
Phi Mu sweetheart and beau second and Kappa Delta Tau sweetheart third.
First place winners of the SLU Homecoming poster contest, which included participants from
nine Tangipahoa Parish schools, were Rebecca Abel, SLU Lab School; Conrad Anderson, SLU Lab
School; Ashley Goings, Independence Middle School; Lane Grigas, Tucker Elementary; Amanda
Wells, D.C. Reeves; Ashley Denison, Martha Vineyard School; Megan Tregle, Holy Ghost School;
Chad Corkern, Holy Ghost School; Sean Deokaran, Holy Ghost School; Ashley Cain, Hammond
Eastside Primary; Wayne Lord and Carandal Blount, Hammond Eastside Upper; Tasylon Davis,
Hammond Westside Upper.

six-year-old category, Bailie Savoy, first; Joshua Smith, second; Paul Duncan, third; and in the seven
to nine-year-old category, Blake Saunier, first; Danielle Lesage, second, and Whitney Willie, third.
