SLU WIND SYMPHONY CONCERT MAY 2
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana University Wind Symphony will present its
spring concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, at the Pottle Music Building Auditorium. The
concert, which features an ensemble of Southeastern's finest wind and percussion musicians
conducted by Director of Bands Glen J. Hemberger, is free to the public.
The program includes the world premiere of "Anniversary Fanfare," composed for
Southeastern's 75th anniversary by music faculty member Richard Prior. Southeastern's director
of choral activities, Dirk A. Garner, will conduct Gustav Holst's "Moorside March." "Variations
on a Shaker Melody" by Aaron Copland will be performed in celebration of the 100th
anniversary
of the composer's death.
The musicians also will perform "Divertimento" by Vincent Persichetti, "The Klaxon
March" by Henry Fillmore, and Russell Pcek's "Cave," a theatrical piece featuring outlandish
costuming and innovative choreography. Music professor Bryan DePoy will perform a trumpet
solo of "Concert Etude."
Hemberger recently returned from Trondheim, Norway, where he served as the American
judge for the 2000 Norwegian National Wind Band Championships. A former faculty member
of the Oklahoma State University and University of Rhode Island, he earned his degree from
University of Colorado in Boulder. His background and credentials make him in demand as a
conductor, clinician, and adjudicator around the world.
