BARITONE, PIANIST PERFORM ENCORE CONCERTS
     HAMMOND -- Baritone James Westman and jazz and classical pianist Willis Delony
will share the "Encore!" spotlight during the first week of February at Southeastern Louisiana
University.
     Encore, the Southeastern music department's annual spring concert series, will continue
through May with recitals and concerts by faculty, students and guest performers.
     Westman, baritone in residence with the San Francisco Opera Adler's Fellowship
program, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m., Monday, February 7, in Pottle Music Building
Auditorium. Delony, head of Southeastern's jazz studies program, will perform a solo concert the
following night, February 8, also at 7:30 p.m. in Pottle Auditorium.
     Westman will be accompanied by pianist Henry Jones. His Encore! performance is
sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, Arts and Lectures Committee and the Marilyn
Horne Foundation. The Horne Foundation, which is dedicated to helping building young
audiences, is sponsoring residencies for Westman at Mandeville High School and Covington
High School on February 4.
     Westman's performances at the San Francisco Opera include Guglielmo in Mozart's
"Cosi Fan Tutte," Marcello in Puccini's "La Boheme," and Renato in Verdi's "Un Ballo in
Maschera." He returned to the prestigious San Francisco Merola Program last summer to sing the
role of Germont in "La Traviata" are participating in the 1997 program singing the role of
Escamillo in "Carmen." 
     Westman also performed "La Braviata" with the 1998 Western Opera Theater Tour and
has performed a number of roles with the Canadian Opera Company's ensemble studio.

ENCORE RECITALS   Add One
     Delony's recital will feature works by Debussy, Bill Dobbins, Duke Ellington, Dave
Brubeck, and Billy Strayhorn.  The pianist and director of Southeastern's Jazz Ensemble is
featured on a soon-to-be-released CD and will be guest soloist at a concert at Florida State
University next month. The concert will be conducted by FSU jazz ensemble conductor Leon
Anderson, a Southeastern alumnus.
     Delony also has been  active with the group Five by Design, which performed the show
"Radio Days" at Southeastern's 1999 Fanfare arts festival, and will be featured in shows with
them this spring  in Baton Rouge; Baltimore, Md.; Tempe, Ariz.; Salt Lake City, Utah, and San
Diego, Calif.
