SLU STAGES MENOTTI’S “THE
TELEPHONE”
– Ben, James Flick of Charleston, W.Va., attempts to propose to his
girlfriend Lucy, Patricia Ramirez of Hammond, who will not get off the
telephone in the Southeastern Louisiana University Opera Music-Theatre
program’s production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s opera “The Telephone.”
The comic modern romance, along with a second Menotti opera, “The Medium,”
will be performed Oct. 24-26 at Southeastern’s Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
Curtain for the opera duo is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults,
$5 for senior citizens, non-SLU students, and SLU faculty, staff and alumni.
Admission is free for Southeastern students presenting a university I.D.

Music Building Auditorium. “The Medium” explores the world of the supernatural
as the fraudulent Madame Flora feels a spectral hand on her neck as she
conducts a seance. She accuses her daughter Monica (Brecheen) and mute
assistant Toby (Pfiel) of playing a cruel trick. Is Madame Flora going
mad, or is the other world extracting its revenge? “The Medium” and Menotti’s
“The Telephone” are directed by Larry Gray and produced by Charles Effler.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, non-SLU students, and
SLU faculty, staff and alumni. Admission is free for Southeastern students
