SLU WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR OF STUDENT PUBLICATIONS/TECHNOLOGY
     HAMMOND -- Matthew Tarver has joined the Southeastern Louisiana University staff
as the new director of Student Publications/Technology.
     Tarver is a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he earned a
bachelor's degree in English, with a minor in Mass Communications.  He earned a master's
degree with a concentration in Professional Writing and Desktop Publishing also from the USL.
He is currently working on his doctoral degree.
     Tarver succeeds Vic Couvillion, who headed  Southeastern student publications for
almost three decades. Couvillion retired in December.
     Tarver, who has been on the job since January, said,  So far it s been great.  The best part
is I get to work with the students and the publishing technology. 
     Tarver s plans for both the "Lion's Roar" student newspaper and "Le Souvenir" yearbook
publications at Southeastern are to have them on-line and updated frequently. He also wants to
enhance the publications technology to produce more digitized images and graphic design, and to
have the editors of both publications be more active spokespersons on campus for the
publications office and Southeastern.
