SLU PRESIDENT AND STUDENT TO SWITCH PLACES
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen will
surrender her office (and her reserved parking place) to one of her students next month -- but just
for one day only and for a very good cause.
The president will be trading her briefcase for a booksack as part of the Student
Foundation's annual "Big Switch," a fund-raiser that lets a lucky student be president for a day
while the University president attends the student's classes.
Funds raised from the Big Switch will go to scholarships, said Student Foundation
President Janelle Accardo, a senior kinesiology major from New Orleans. Tickets, 50 cents each,
will be sold March 3-7 in the Student Union Mall and are available at the Development
Foundation offices in the Alumni Complex on Columbus Drive, 504-549-3770. They also can be
purchased from Student Foundation members.
The winning ticket will be drawn at noon on March 8 at the Alumni Association's "Rock
'n Roar: the 'Mane' Event" celebration. The date for the actual switch has not been set, but will
probably be during the week of March 16, Accardo said.
"The Big Switch is a chance for students to find out more about the university and about
what the President has to go through on a daily basis -- and vice versa!" said Accardo. "The
President enjoyed doing it last year. As for the student, who wouldn't want a good parking spot
for a day!"
Community members and alumni are welcome to purchase a ticket in a student's name.
Campus offices can also buy tickets in the name of their student workers.
