STUDENTS CAN GET SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SUMMER STUDY ABROAD
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will award 20 $2,500 scholarships to
students who want to participate in the university's summer study abroad programs in France,
Mexico and Italy.
Al Dranguet, head of the International Studies Program, said students must apply for the
scholarships by March 21. Priority will be given to students in good standing in the university's
Honors Program, Dranguet said, but other students with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
may apply.
The scholarships will reduce by more than half the cost of tuition, airfare, lodging, meals
and other expenses in the five-week programs in Paris and Provence, France, and Verona, Italy,
and the six-week program in Puebla, Mexico. Financial aid is available for the remainder of the
costs, Dranguet said.
"Through this scholarship offer and financial aid, students can actually study abroad this
summer for no out of pocket cost," Dranguet said. "We urge all qualified students to consider
applying for the scholarships. Remember, study abroad is an investment in your future."
Through the five-week Study Tour of France 2000 (July 3-August 7) program, which
will be led by Margaret Marshall, head of Southeastern's foreign languages and literatures
department, students can earn up to six hours credit in French grammar, literature, conversation,
and civilization courses. Students can also take an English literature and a marketing course. The
$3,999 cost includes airfare.
By participating in Southeastern's oldest foreign study program, the Spanish Language
and Culture Program at the Universidad de las Americas, Puebla, Mexico (May 26-July 7),
