SUMMER CAMPS IN FULL SWING AT SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY 
       HAMMOND – Parents looking for challenging, creative – and fun – summer activities for children can find a wide variety of programs at Southeastern Louisiana University.
       Registration for many summer camps is currently underway and early sign-up is encouraged. Many of the programs offer before and after care options.
Programs include:
        Academic Adventures. The colleges of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, and the Division of Continuing Education and Special Activities are sponsoring the camps on Southeastern’s Hammond campus and at the university’s St. Tammany Center.
       In Hammond, students can choose Italian, July 11-15; the Children’s Art Education Workshop, July 11-21 (Monday-Thursday, morning and afternoon sessions available); “Fantastic Physics Fun, July 18-22, and “Gizmo’s Robot Factory,” July 25-29. 
       At the St Tammany Center “Kids Just Like You Became Famous Explorers” is scheduled July 11-15, while Digital Arts and Spanish camps will be held July 18-22. The center is on the third floor of the St. Tammany Administrative Complex, 21454 Koop Drive, north of Mandeville near the intersection of I-12 and Louisiana 59.

        The Southeastern Music Festival, sponsored by Southeastern’s Community Music School, is scheduled weekdays July 5-15. A challenging musical experience geared towards the needs of young musicians ages 8-17 or grades third through high school, SMF offers instruction on all orchestral and band instruments, piano, voice, and guitar (all styles). Instruction includes private lessons, large ensemble experience, concerts, master classes, chamber music studies, and music rudiment and theory classes all provided in a supportive and encouraging environment.         At the Young Writers Camp, scheduled August 1-5 at the Hammond Regional Arts Center in downtown Hammond, children can explore the techniques and rewards of writing under the guidance of the faculty of the Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project.  A registration form and contact information is available at www.selu.edu/summercamps.
        Several sessions of the Children's Summer Day Camp, one of Southeastern’s oldest and most popular summer programs, are still available July 5-15 (registration deadline July 1) and July 18- 29 (registration deadline July 15). The day camp provides a variety of sport skill acquisition, physical fitness, and recreational games for boys and girls ages five-12 years under the guidance of trained Southeastern graduate and undergraduate students.
