SLU SUMMER CONCERT BAND TO GIVE FREE OUTDOOR CONCERTS
HAMMOND, LA -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Music Department is giving
amateur musicians a chance to perform this summer. The Summer Concert Band program is
inviting high school and college students, and community members to join. The group will
perform every Wednesday at 7:00 pm on the SLU campus in a free outdoor concert.
Frank Dubuy, director of bands at SLU, will have rehearsals every Tuesday at 7:00 pm in
the band room of the Pottle Music Building. Dubuy says band members can participate once or
every week, as their schedules allow. "This gives them an opportunity to hone their skills and
perform before an audience," said Dubuy. High school band students are encouraged to continue
playing during the summer months and community members who play a musical instrument are
invited to "dust off the horn" and join the fun. In case of rain, the band will perform in the Pottle
Auditorium. "The community is invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the
music," said Dubuy. The first scheduled concert is June 3.
For more information call Dubuy at 549-2196.
