AMY DAIGLE NAMED SLU STUDENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR
HAMMOND -- Amy Daigle is the first recipient of a new Southeastern Louisiana University
award, "Student Employee of the Year." The senior accounting major from Marrero has worked
in the
office of Vice President for Student Affairs Patsy Causey for two years.
The award, sponsored by Southeastern's Financial Aid Office, was presented to Daigle at a
May 3 reception at the Alumni Center.
Also nominated were Angela Blackwell, John P. Dominano, Kenya Lawrence and Lisa G.
Perrilloux, Hammond; Natalie Mayeaux, Ponchatoula; Catherine Schwartz, Amite; Brian
Verberne,
Kentwood; Erin Buratt, Holden; Trampas Cranford, Livingston; Natasha Ellis, Walker; Melanie
Justin, Denham Springs; Karla J. Wyatt, Mandeville; Deirdra Crane, Jamila Davis and Hope R.
Papenburg, Baton Rouge; Michael Decker, New Orleans; Melissa Correro, Metairie, and Leslie
C.
Rouillier, Paulina.
Southeastern's more than 1,000 student workers are often called upon to handle essential, "but
sometimes less than exciting" office tasks, Provost Randy Moffett said, but they also are "front
line
ambassadors," answering 75 percent of the university's telephone calls. "They are often also our
technical gurus," he said. "In many cases they are sometimes more knowledgeable than some of
us!"
While students gain valuable job skills in campus offices, "We couldn't do without them,"
Moffett said. "All of you are winners and Southeastern is a winner for having you."
Daigle's supervisor, Student Affairs secretary Sandra Hufstetler, described her as "a self-starter
and perfectionist...an outstanding representative of our office and the university." While working
in the
Student Affairs office, Hufstetler said Daigle maintained a high academic average, was president
of
Gamma Beta Phi service fraternity and an active member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority. She also
received a number of scholarships and student honors.
