SAINT LOUIS BRASS QUINTET TO PERFORM AT SLU
HAMMOND -- The Saint Louis Brass Quintet, renowned for a unique combination of
virtuoso performance and showmanship, will present a varied, humorous program of American
jazz and classics at Southeastern Louisiana University's Pottle Music Building Auditorium Jan.
27.
Sponsored by the Arts and Lectures Committee, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet concert is
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for senior citizens and non-
SLU students. Southeastern students are admitted free with their university I.D.
Put two trumpets, a French horn, a trombone, and a tuba in the hands of virtuoso
performer, add some lighthearted demonstrations, and you have the Saint Louis Brass Quintet.
Their concerts begin as any concert might, but get lighter and lighter as the program moves
along. Their repertoire of American classical and jazz composers is highlighted by humorous
demonstrations -- such as a history of brass instruments from King Tut's time to today featuring a
French horn fashioned from a 12-foot section of garden hose.
"We have a lot of fun with the audience," said trombonist Melvyn Jernigan, a music
