SOUTHEASTERN SHOWCASE TO SPOTLIGHT UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS FOR
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, ADULTS
HAMMOND -- High School students, parents and adult learners can find out about
special Southeastern Louisiana University programs and academic curricula at "Southeastern
Showcase," a series of informational seminars scheduled for the Hammond campus and at
Southeastern centers in St. Tammany Parish and Baton Rouge.
Sam Domiano, director of Admissions and Financial Aid, said the programs will
highlight the university's Superior High School Juniors Program and Special Program for Adults,
as well as offer general information on Southeastern degree programs, financial aid, housing and
other topics.
"Our High School Superior Juniors Program gives qualified high school students the
opportunity to get a head start on their college careers," Domiano said. "The Special Program for
Adults helps older learners make the transition back into the classroom, whether they want to
pursue a degree or take courses for professional or personal development."
Domiano said Southeastern admissions counselors will have information available on the
Superior Juniors Program from 4-6 p.m. and the Special Program for Adults from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
on
July 31 at the St. Tammany Center on the third floor of the St. Tammany Parish
Government Complex on Koop Drive. Koop Drive can be reached by going north at the I-12
Abita Springs/Mandeville exit.

Last summer, Southeastern made its long-standing Superior Juniors Program more
accessible to qualified students by making it tuition free. The program allows qualified high
school students to enroll in and receive a tuition waiver for up to two courses per semester if they
meet the courses' prerequisites, have permission from their high school principal, and if there is
space available in the course they want to take.
To qualify, students must have completed their junior year in high school and have
earned either a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 and a composite ACT score of
19 or have earned a composite score of 25 on the ACT.
Through the Special Program for Adults, graduates of an accredited high school or the
equivalent who have not attended high school or college for at least three years and are at least
25 years old may enroll in up to two undergraduate courses per semester for personal or
professional growth.
"SPA is tailored to the needs of adults returning to the university, or attending for the first
time," said Frances Wood, director of the university's Junior Division. "It gives adults a way to
work toward goals, re-energize their career or just try something new. They can take courses to
pursue special interests and talents, develop a hobby, or increase self-confidence and self-
esteem."
Participants can remain in the program indefinitely or choose to transfer to a degree
program, Wood said.
