SLU HOSTS ANNUAL SOCIAL STUDIES FAIR
     HAMMOND -- Winners of the annual Region VIII Social Studies Fair, hosted March 20
by Southeastern Louisiana University, have been announced.
     Grand prize and second place winners for individual and group projects were chosen in
three divisions, Division I (grades 4-6), Division II (grades 7-8), and Division III (grades 9-12).
They will advance to the state Social Studies Fair at Louisiana State University.
                            DIVISION I
     INDIVIDUAL: Grand Prize -- Brittany Dehart, "Capital Punishment: To Live or Die,"
Mandeville Middle School; Second place   Alex Craik, "Magnificent Magleus," Tchefuncte
Middle School.
     GROUP: Grand Prize -- Rafa Salcedo and Jonathan Boone, "The Holocaust: Memory or
Myth," North Lake Christian School; Second place   Alexander Brown and Greg Heun, "D-
Day," Cedarwood School.
                          DIVISION II
     INDIVIDUAL: Grand Prize -- Annie Anne Simon, "Are We Complying," Fontainebleau
High School; Second place   Joseph Tenini, "Third Party Politics," Holy Ghost School.
     GROUP: Grand Prize -- Jessie Kidd and Sarah Kay Talano, "Too Close for Comfort,"
Trafton Academy; Second place   Ashton White and Mandy Moore, "S.O.S.," Trafton Academy.
                          DIVISION III
     INDIVIDUAL: Grand Prize   Adam Martinez, "The New Orleans Economy: Prime to
Prosper," the St. Paul School; Nicholas J. Hite, "Birth Order: Does it Matter?," Hammond High
School.
.    GROUP   Grand Prize: Kimberly Resetar and Anna Parden, "Crash and Burn: the Stock
Market," Albany High School; Second place -- Michael Sciortina and Gray Terral, "The Great
Starvation Led to Immigration," the St. Paul School.
