SLU WRITING PROJECT SPONSORS WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHERS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Southeastern Louisiana Writing
Project (SLWP) will sponsor "Best Practices in Teaching Writing," a series workshops for K-12
faculty, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 21, at the University Center.
"This day of workshops was designed to help faculty answer Louisiana's call
for more and better writing in our schools," said SLWP Director Richard Louth.
He said the workshops will be conducted by experienced classroom teacher-consultants
from the Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project. They will conduct two workshops for each
grade level -- elementary, middle/junior high, and high school -- as well as individualized poster
sessions offering one-on-one advice and handouts on how to motivate, guide, and assess students'
writing.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Registration checks
can be made out to the Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project and mailed to Richard Louth,
SLU 10327, Hammond, LA 70402. Participants are asked to include name, grade level, school,
and address.
For questions, contact Louth at rlouth@selu.edu or at 549-2100 or 2102.
