APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR SLWP SUMMER INSTITUTE
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana Writing Project (SLWP) at Southeastern
Louisiana University is accepting applications for its12th annual Invitational
Summer Institute for teachers of writing.
The institute, which will meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday,
June 16-July 17 is designed for teachers of all grade levels and subjects
who use writing in their classrooms.
During the institute, 15 selected teachers will be invited to study the
teaching of writing and share their own best teaching practices. Participants
will also be given the opportunity to write and develop workshops on teaching
writing that can be used as in-service sessions at local schools.
A special feature of this summer's institute will be a "writing marathon"
in New Orleans.
Participants become Summer Fellows at the university and receive free tuition
from the National Writing Project, a $150 stipend, books and materials,
and six hours of graduate credit.
Applicants should submit a resume; a brief description of a writing activity
used in their classroom; a letter of recommendation from a supervisor or
from a member of the SLWP; and a page containing name, address, phone,
e-mail, Social Security number, school and grade level where the applicant
currently teaches.
Applications will be considered until the institute is filled, and on-campus
interviews will take place after each application is received.
