SOUTHEASTERN'S SIFE ORGANIZATION HELPS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
     HAMMOND -- On Saturday, October 24, Southeastern Louisiana University s Students
In Free Enterprise (SIFE), will join more than 1.3 million Americans in the eighth annual Make
A Difference Day.
     SIFE members will teach underprivileged children how to use the Internet and treat the
kids to a picnic at Southeastern's Covington Center according to Glenn Rhodes, SIFE project
coordinator. Approximately 60 children will participate in the project which will be held from
10am-2pm.
     Make A Difference Day was created in 1992 by USA WEEKEND magazine, in
partnership with The Points of Light Foundation, as a day to spend helping others. And since
then, millions of Americans have observed Make A Difference Day by involving themselves in
service projects, such as cleaning neighborhoods, feeding the homeless, renovating homes and
schools and visiting the elderly.
     Actor Paul Newman and his food company, Newman s Own Inc., along with Wal-Mart,
the Gannet Foundation and USA WEEKEND, will recognize outstanding volunteer projects with
awards totaling $318,000.
     SIFE's objective is to bring the business community, educators and students together to
learn more about the free enterprise system and how it works. The organization exposes students
from different regions of the world to today's business environment and help them learn effective
networking skills prior to graduation. SIFE also helps to better the community and individuals
involved in the organization via positive social interaction, education and personal growth.
