SLU'S SIFE AND BLACK STUDENT CAUCUS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
and the Black Student Caucus teamed up for a "Make A Difference Day" project October 23.
The two student groups instructed a group of 40 junior and senior high school students on
techniques for resumes, interviews and job applications.
SIFE President Glenn Michael Rhodes, a marketing major from Thibodaux, gave a
computerized presentation on the job search.
The groups offered door prizes, donated by Southeastern's Xerox Business Services.
Alesha Gusman of Hammond Junior High won the top door-prize of a picnic set including an ice
chest, lunchbox and thermos.
Last year USA Weekend magazine, coordinator of Make A Difference Day, cited
Southeastern's SIFE organization as one of 15 national finalists for the groups computer
instruction project.
Make A Difference Day was created in 1992 by USA WEEKEND magazine, in
partnership with The Points of Light Foundation, as a day to spend helping others. And since
then, millions of Americans have observed Make A Difference Day by involving themselves in
service projects, such as cleaning neighborhoods, feeding the homeless, renovating homes and
schools and visiting the elderly.
Faculty advisor for the Black Student Caucus is director of Adult, Commuter and
Veterans Services Milas Love and R. David Ramsey, professor of general business, is the SIFE
faculty advisor.
