SLU OFFICER PROMOTED TO SERGEANT
HAMMOND -- Officer Terrell Thompson of Hammond, a member of the Southeastern
Louisiana University police department since 1993, has been promoted to sergeant.
In announcing Thompson's promotion, Patsy Causey, vice president for student affairs,
said Thompson is "dependable, pro-Southeastern, pro-student and pro-department."
"We think he will be a very good ambassador for the police department and the
university," she said.
University Police Director Paul Marek said Thompson is one of six sergeants in the xx-
person department. Thompson has served as the department's field training officer and an
assistant shift supervisor and has assisted with investigations, Marek said. As training officer, he
was responsible for the initial training of all new officers in areas such as safety and survival,
tactics, state law and other statutes, criminal procedure and civil liability.
Thompson is a graduate of law enforcement training courses at the Louisiana State
University Law Enforcement Training Academy and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office
Training Academy and is pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Southeastern. He is an aviation
unit maintenance specialist with the Louisiana Army National Guard 812th Medical
Company/Air Ambulance.
Thompson is married to Lisa Smith Thompson, a surgical assistant with Hammond
physician Dr. J. Skelly Kreller, and is the son of Mollymae Thompson, a veteran teacher at
Natalbany Elementary School.
