SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINE IS DEC. 15
HAMMOND - Southeastern Louisiana University is reminding high school seniors that
December 15 is the deadline to apply for university scholarships for the academic year 2000-
2001.
High school seniors with an ACT composite score of 24 or above, a 3.0 grade point
average or demonstrated leadership abilities will be invited to compete for scholarships at the
university's annual Scholarship Day, February 11.
Interested students should contact Southeastern's Office of Scholarship Services at (504)
549-2244 or write to Southeastern Louisiana University, Office of Scholarship Services, SLU
10768, Hammond LA 70402.
Applications for scholarships and admission are also available online under the
"Prospective Students" link at www.selu.edu.
Whether they apply online, in person or by mail, Southeastern is encouraging all high
school seniors to sign up for fall 2000 as early as possible.
As an incentive, the university is sponsoring a drawing for high-tech academic tools such
as laptop computers, graphing calculators and electronic personal organizers. Students who apply
for admission by March 1 will automatically be eligible to win the donated prizes. Winners will
be drawn on the first day of class in August 2000.
The "apply early" message is prompted by Southeastern's preparations for implementing
quality admission standards next fall, Steve Soutullo, Registrar and Director of Enrollment
Services, said.
"We're excited about the new admission standards and the positive impact they will have
on student preparation and success, academic programs, and retention and graduation rates,"
Soutullo said. "However, we also know that it is going to take longer to process admissions
applications. Therefore, the more students we can encourage to apply early, the smoother the

process will be for everyone."
Beginning in fall 2000, Southeastern students will have to meet one of the following
admissions criteria: ACT composite score of 20 or better, high school core grade point average of
2.0 or better or high school graduation ranking of 50 percent or better. Some students may also
be admitted based on life experience, exemplary leadership, artistic ability or potential for
success.
In addition to applying online, students can call 1-800-222-SELU to request an
application or pick one up at the Enrollment Services office in the Southeastern University
Center, Room 104.
