1997 REGION 8 SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS
HAMMOND -- Mandeville High School student Rachel E. Kuzio was the overall winner
of the 1997 Region 8 Science Fair held at Southeastern Louisiana University March 20.
For her winning project titled "Colorimetry of Pottery Sherds: Can a Spectroradiometer
Replace Humans in the Determination of Pottery Color?" Kuzio will receive a cash prize and,
along with first, second and third place regional winners, will advance to the state science fair at
Louisiana State University in April.
Julie Owens of Ponchatoula High School was named the Outstanding Secondary Science
Teacher. and special United States Navy awards went to Claude M. D'Antonio Jr. of Bowling
Green High School, Joel Bracey of Varnado High School, Julie Brown of Covington High
School and Joshua Joiner of Covington High School.
