REGION 8 SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS BY FEMALE ENTRANTS Ann Taylor, representing
the Association of Women in Chemistry, presents the Iota Sigma Pi National
Honor Society for Women in Chemistry Award to Region 8 Science Fair participants

Hammond High School, senior division. The award was presented at the annual
fair, held at the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University.
NAVY/MARINE
CORPS SCIENCE HONORS Kathe Newcomb and Joal Newcomb of the Office of
Naval Research congratulate the recipients of the Navy/Marine Corps Distinguished
Achievement Awards who were honored at the recent Region 8 Science Fair
at Southeastern Louisiana University. From left, front, are junior division

FONTAINEBLEAU HIGH STUDENT
WINS REGION 8 SCIENCE FAIR
HAMMOND Matthew Fair
of Fontainebleau High School took first place in the 2005 Region 8 Science
Fair held at Southeastern Louisiana University March 24. For his winning
project Wing Shape The Science of Flight, which received first place
honors in the senior division engineering category, Fair received a $500
cash prize. He also was a recipient of a Navy/Marine Corps Distinguished
Achievement Award.
Along with first, second
and third place regional winners, Fair will advance to the state science
fair at Louisiana State University.
Second place honors went
to Samantha Jeninks of Amite High School for Rootin 4 Roots. John Tiley
of Hammond High School was the third place finisher with Safe Water.
Aime Bancroft of St. Thomas
Aquinas High School and Shelly Gaydos of Hammond High School were named
the Outstanding Secondary Science Teacher.
In addition to Fair, Navy/Marine
Corps Distinguished Achievement Awards also were presented to senior division
entries Roger DeSanti, Fontainebleau High School; Ashley Childress, St.
Tammany Home Educators Association; Megan Thibodaux, St. Scholastica Academy;
and Andrew Talley, Amite High School.
Junior Division Navy/Marine
Corps awards awards went to Jan McGovern, Holy Ghost School; Charles McLin
II, Nesom Middle School; and Blake Korenkiewicz, Fontainebleau Junior High
School.
The Iota Sigma Pi Women
in Chemistry Award for the best project by female students in the chemistry,
biochemistry and environmental science divisions went to Roxanne Pfeil
of Hammond High School and Caroline Crother of Holy Ghost School.
Class Works Achievement
Awards were presented to Lauren Patti, Hammond High School; Tirston Manuel,
Hammond Junior High School; Amanda Arceneaux, Albany Middle School; and
Hope Macaluso, Mater Dolorosa School.
