SLU SBDC SPONSORS UNDERSTANDING FINANCIAL STATEMENTS SEMINAR
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Small Business Development
Center will offer small businesses two sessions of a seminar on "Understanding Financial
Statements."
The seminar, cosponsored by the Greater Slidell Area Chamber of Commerce and the St.
Tammany-West Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 1-4 p.m., May 27, in the Magnolia
Room of the Slidell LaQuinta Inn and from 1-4 p.m., June 3, at the Sullivan Vo-Tech Conference
Room at the St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.
The seminar will be conducted by SBDC Director Bill Joubert and SBDC Counseling
Coordinator Casey Willis.
"Many of the small business we see in our office only use their financial statements for
income tax purpose," said Bobbie Boudreaux, SBDC training coordinator, "but a business's
financial statement can serve as an important management tool in making business decisions.
This seminar is designed to give small business owners and managers a clear understanding of
their financial statements, enabling them to use these statements as management tools.""
Seminar participants will learn how to read and interpret balance sheets and income and
cash flow statements. They also will learn how to use key business ratios to see how their
business is operating compared to the industry average.
The seminar costs $25 for Chamber members and $40 for non-Chamber members.
Handouts and refreshments will be provided. Seated is limited and reservations will be taken on a
first come-first serve basis.
To register, call Boudreaux, at 504-549-3831.
