PHI KAPPA PHI INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's chapter of the Honor Society of Phi
Kappa Phi has inducted 40 new student and faculty members.
Following the traditional induction ceremony at the Music Recital Hall on May 1, new
members were honored at Phi Kappa Phi's annual spring banquet at Twelve Oak. Dr. Thomas
Bonner, professor of English at Xavier University, was the guest speaker.
To be considered for membership in the national honor society, a student must be in the
top ten percent of the senior or graduate class and hold a minimum 3.4 grade point average.
Sound character is a supporting criterion. Faculty and alumni are chosen for outstanding
contributions to their fields.
Faculty members chosen for Phi Kappa Phi were Albert Doucette Jr., associate dean of
the College of Arts and Sciences; Jeffrey Bell, assistant professor of philosophy; Marjorie Rhine,
assistant professor of English and Katherine Pedersen, professor and head of the department of
mathematics. New graduate student member is Charles N. Elliot of Baton Rouge.
Phi Kappa Phi presented "Honored Junior" awards to Wesley Williams of Mandeville,
College of Arts and Sciences; Elizabeth Shaffer of Greenwell Springs, College of Business;
Brandi Lambert of St. Amant, College of Education, and Vrinda Villa of Slidell, School of
Nursing.
Kimberly Marshall of Hammond also was honored as Outstanding Student in
Southeastern's Honors Program.
