HONOR SOCIETY FUNDS QUIZ BOWL AT SOUTHEASTERN
HAMMOND -- The Southeastern Louisiana University chapter of the Honor Society Phi
Kappa Phi has been awarded a promotion of excellence grant from the Phi Kappa Phi national
organization to fund a campus college quiz bowl tournament.
The $2,400 grant the full amount requested is one of only seven funded by the
national honor society in the organization's most recent funding period.
Joan Faust, assistant professor of English and president of the Southeastern chapter of the
national honor society, said the organization plans to host an intramural elimination competition
following the popular quiz bowl format. Four-member teams will be recruited from all segments
of the university, including faculty, Greek organizations, students in residential facilities, and
special interest organizations. The teams will compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer
session. The event will be held during the 2002-2003 academic year, possibly during fall
homecoming activities.
Established in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi is one of the nation's most prestigious
interdisciplinary higher education honor societies with more than 280 chapters in the United
States and the Philippines. The Southeastern chapter was chartered in 1956, the 75th unit
established.
