SLU OFFERS OUT-OF-STATE TUITION FEE WAIVER TO STUDENTS FROM
MISSISSIPPI, ARKANSAS AND TEXAS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La., is now offering
out-of-state tuition fee waivers to students from the neighboring states of Mississippi, Arkansas,
and Texas.
The university will implement the fee waiver program for a one semester trial period
beginning with the spring 2002 semester in January, President Randy Moffett said.
He said the waiver will save qualified non-Louisiana students from $888 to $2,664 in
tuition, depending on course load. The fees are paid in addition to the university's regular tuition,
which ranges from approximately $330 to $1200.
To qualify for the waiver, non-resident beginning freshmen must have a minimum
American College Test (ACT) composite score of 21, a grade point average of 2.25 or higher and
no developmental course requirements.
Transfer students must have at least 12 credit hours, a 2.5 or higher grade point average
and no developmental course requirements.
The approval for the waiver is for the spring semester only, according to guidelines
established by the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System, said Stephen
Soutullo, director of academic services. He said if approval to offer the waiver is not extended,
students admitted under the policy will continue to receive the waiver as long as they make
satisfactory progress in their degree program.
Last month, Southeastern established an out-of-state tuition fee waiver for qualified non-
Louisiana teacher education majors.
"We're extremely pleased to be able to extend the fee waiver to all students in our

neighboring states on this trial basis," Moffett said. "Southeastern has many fine academic
programs in areas such as teacher education, business, music, and nursing. Since courses
increasingly are available through the Internet, we hope students will take advantage of this
opportunity."
Southeastern Louisiana University is one of eight public universities and colleges in the
University of Louisiana System. Located in Hammond, midway between Baton Rouge and New
Orleans, the 76-year-old university has an enrollment of approximately 14,500 students.
Southeastern offers four associate programs, 42 baccalaureate programs, and 17 graduate
programs, including new master's degrees in Integrated Science and Technology, Organization
Communication and Applied Sociology. All master's degree programs and 94 percent of
undergraduate programs are nationally accredited.
Southeastern has one of the largest and most successful teacher preparation programs in
Louisiana while maintaining strong partnerships with area school systems. The university was
the
first in Louisiana to "guarantee" its teacher graduates to school systems, ensuring that those
teachers know their subject matter, can teach to diverse populations, and can effectively infuse
technology throughout the curriculum. If any graduates fail to meet the criteria, Southeastern
retrains those individuals at its own expense and provides them with a mentor for at least a year.
Registration for the spring 2002 semester is January 8-10. Students can apply for
admission to Southeastern online at www.selu.edu/enroll.
