SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE NOV. 22
HAMMOND – High school students
and their parents can learn about Southeastern Louisiana University’s academic
programs, admission requirements, scholarship and financial aid opportunities
at a campus open house on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
The event will also feature campus
tours, information on campus services and student life, and visits to the
university’s six academic colleges.
“Southeastern hosted our largest
and most successful Senior Day last month with an attendance of 1,200 students
and parents,” said Wendy Van Dalen, associate director of recruitment and
orientation. “Our annual fall open house is a great opportunity for students
and parents, whether or not they attended Senior Day, to gather more information
on specific academic programs and to get a close-up look at facilities
in our colleges that provide students with valuable hands-on learning experiences.”
Registration for the fun and informative
event begins at 9:30 a.m. in the War Memorial Student Union. Activities
from 10 a.m. until noon include campus life displays, a 30-minute presentation
on admissions, financial aid, scholarships, housing and athletics; and
campus and tours.
After a complimentary lunch, Southeastern’s
six colleges – Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences; Business; Education
& Human Development; General Studies; Nursing & Health Sciences;
and Science & Technology -- will host presentations and tours for students
interested in majoring in one of their academic programs.
Through brief presentations and
hands-on activities and games, students undecided about their course of
study will learn about Southeastern’s offerings in academic advising, career
exploration, supplemental instruction and tutorial services, and the Southeastern
Scholars, a program that allows qualified students to earn college credit
while still in high school.
Throughout campus, students will
also have the opportunity to tour finance, nursing, broadcast communication,
language, music and writing labs; visit facilities such as the Southeastern
Lab School, the Microsoft Certification Lab, the Southeastern Channel,
the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies, and the Florida Parishes Social
Science Research Center; tour performing and visual arts facilities, and
learn about study abroad programs, and view department and student organization
displays and videos.
