SLU NURSING HONOR SOCIETY GAINS NATIONAL CHARTER
HAMMOND An official chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society
will be chartered in Southeastern Louisiana University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences
on March 8.
Some 135 to 150 nurse leaders and students from Southeastern will be inducted at the
ceremony at 5 p.m. in the War Memorial Student Theatre. Peggy Ellis of the University of
Missouri at St. Louis will conduct the ceremony, which will be followed by a reception in the
union ballroom.
Officers to be installed are nursing instructor Jennifer Robinson, president; associate
professor Cynthia Prestholdt, president-elect; instructor Michelle Vidrine, vice president;
Katheryn Bigler of Baton Rouge, secretary; professor Carole Lund, treasurer; instructor Penny
Dyess, Hammond counselor; and instructor Jeannie Harper, Baton Rouge counselor.
Membership in Sigma Theta Tau International is extended by invitation and is to
undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and professional nurses who have demonstrated
superior scholastic, leadership and nursing achievements. Approval for the Southeastern chapter
of the honor society was granted in November at the national convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
Sigma Theta Tau International has more than 300,000 members in 423 chapters in
colleges and universities throughout the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong,
Netherlands, Pakistan, South Korea and Taiwan. The organization encourages and sponsors
research, promotes the development of nursing leadership and supports the development of
nursing scholars.
