SOUTHEASTERN NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES STUDENTS HONORED
HAMMOND -- Dana H. Nobles of Raleigh, N.C., Jeanie Dufrene of Laplace and
Meghann Cassidy of River Ridge received the Southeastern Louisiana University College of
Nursing and Health Sciences' highest honor, the Dean's Award, at the college's second annual
honor's convocation held April 22.
Nobles received the award from the Department of Communication Sciences and
Disorders, Cassidy from the School of Nursing, and Dufrene from the Department of
Kinesiology and Health Studies.
Leroy Fanning was named the Southeastern Alumni Association's first Distinguished
Alumnus for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Fanning, a 1964 graduate in health and
physical education, has been a professor at the University of Tennessee for 27 years, where he
has aided in acquiring more than $10 million for the athletic department. He is a well-established
writer and speaker, author of 23 journal articles and six books, and was named to "Who's Who"
in the south and southeast.

Gulf Breeze, Fla.: Shannon Roney, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Grady Morgan
Most Outstanding Student Athletic Training Award.
Hammond: Tonya M. Doan, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Emma LaDew
Memorial Fund; Kenneth Trahan, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Grady Morgan Most
Outstanding Student Athletic Training Award.

San Antonio, Texas: Judith D. Barnes, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Emma
LaDew Memorial Fund.
Each department also recognized local businesses with their own Significant Partnership
Award. North Oaks Rehabilitation Services, with special recognition to the speech therapy staff,
received the award from Communication Sciences and Disorders; Hammond Strawberry Fields,
Inc. was recognized by Kinesiology and Health Studies, and the Department of Nursing
acknowledged North Oaks Health System, LSU Health Care Services and Earl K. Long Medical
Center.
Also recognized were 13 Club, Gamma Beta Phi, Alpha Sigma Lambda, Kappa Delta Phi
and Phi Kappa Phi members and inductees and for the 2001-2002 academic year.
