SCHOOL OF NURSING HONORS OUTSTANDING '96 GRADUATES
     HAMMOND -- Penny Meyers Thomas of Loranger received the Southeastern
Louisiana University School of Nursing's highest honor, the Dean's Award, at the school's annual
honor's convocation on May 2. A mother of three, Thomas will graduate in May with a 3.900
grade point average.
     The School also presented two awards to seniors based on their scholarship, leadership
and character. The Opal Carl Memorial Award, named for the School of Nursing's founder, went
to Pam Ross of Baton Rouge, an active member of Southeastern's Student Nurses Association
chapter. Mitchell Pousson of Tickfaw won the Sister Mary Agnes Fortier Award, given by the
South Louisiana League for Nursing.  
     Megan Louque of Walker received the Distinguished Graduate Scholar Award,
whileCarolyn Ward of Baker received special recognition from the Nurses' Christian
Fellowship. 
     The Outstanding Senior awards were given to James Creel of Prairieville, first semester,
and Jud Bermudez of Prairieville, graduating senior. The recipients of the Outstanding Junior
Award were Keri Girard  of Loranger and Myra Taylor of Denham Springs, first semester, and
Glenda Natale of Baton Rouge, second semester.
     Recipients of awards given by Southeastern's chapter of the Student Nurses Association
included Shae Woodward of Baton Rouge, Most Outstanding Member and Most Likely to be in
the American Nurses Association (Baton Rouge campus); Darren Coates of Baton Rouge, Most
Active New Member (Baton Rouge campus); Charles Borchers of Hammond, Most Active in
Fundraising; Pam Ross of Baton Rouge Most Active in Community Service; Christy Jones of
