TWO DARK COMEDY ONE-ACTS AT SLU APRIL 28 - MAY 3
EDITORS: PLEASE NOTE LOCAL INTEREST
HAMMOND, LA -- Southeastern Louisiana University Theatre's spring season closes
with two one-act comedies, No Smoking by David W. Eddy and The Actor's Nightmare by
Christopher Durang. The plays will run April 28-May 3 at 7:30 pm in the Vonnie Borden
Theatre.
No Smoking, an original script by a new young playwright from Austin, Texas, will have
its world premiere on the SLU stage. The comic farce is about four inadequate would-be
gangsters, who most closely resemble the Three Stooges. The story is told by a narrator in Phillip
Marlowe style and is directed by Theatre senior Jason Buuck of Slidell. The cast includes Jim
Yeargain and Blair Ziegler of Hammond, Christina DeRosier of Husser and Robert Stratton of
Baton Rouge.
The Actor's Nightmare, directed by graduate student Greg Carpenter of Hammond, is a
dark comedy about a man who finds himself backstage in a theatre, expected to perform in a play
which seems to be a combination of Shakespeare, Noel Coward and Samuel Beckett. An
amazing group of real-life historical actors parade before him, all appearing to know him, though
he can't recall ever seeing them before. The cast members include Beau Allulli and Natalie
Messer of Hammond, Cherie Maurer of Independence, Kat Duvic of Mandeville and Gary
Mendoza of Slidell.
Theatre major Deron Daniels of New Orleans will design costumes and faculty member
Steve Schepker will design the sets and lighting. The Southeastern box office will be open April
21 from 11am -3pm daily. Tickets will also be available before each performance. Tickets are $5
general admission, $3 students and senior citizens and free for SLU students. For more
information call the SLU box office at 549-2115.
