PARKING PLAN CHANGES AT SLU IN JUNE
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University students, faculty and staff will find
changes in parking regulations when the summer session begins in June, according to Paul
Marek, director of the University Police Department.
Marek said a new parking plan, prompted by the construction of a new $10 million dollar
classroom and laboratory building on North Oak Street, has been developed by a campus wide
committee. Marek said changes recommended by the student, faculty and staff panel include
changes in the following areas:
* Parking around Sims Memorial Library will be converted from upperclass commuter
to faculty/staff.
* SGA carwash area (near the Hammond fire station on North Oak St.) will be going to
upperclass commuter from freshman commuter.
* Parking around Cefalu Coliseum is going from freshman commuter to upperclass
commuter.
* Parking around SGA Drive, Kinesiology Building, D. Vickers Hall and McKneely
Hall are being converting from upperclass commuter to faculty/staff.
* Parking west of the War Memorial Student Union is going from upperclass commuter
to faculty/staff.
* All freshman commuter parking will be north and east of the University Center and
behind North Campus where a new parking area will be constructed.
"Actually, one of the student members on the Parking Committee proposed the parking
plan that will be in affect," Marek said. "Once the new buildings are constructed, we will look at
parking again and possibly make changes."
Students will receive a campus parking map when they purchase a parking hang tag or
can obtain one at the University Police Department.
