SEVEN SOUTHEASTERN STUDENTS WIN IN NATS COMPETITION
     HAMMOND -- Seven Southeastern Louisiana University students were among the
winners in the recent National Association of Teachers of Singing Southern Regional
competition.
     The Southeastern students were among 343 singers from Louisiana, Mississippi and
Arkansas who participated in the competition, held November 8-10 at Harding University in
Searcy, Ark. Of the 21 Southeastern students competing, 16 advanced to the semifinal round.
     First place winners from Southeastern were Jacquie Brecheen of Ponchatoula,
sophomore women; Summer Grest of Ponchatoula, senior women; and Lara Tillotson of Flower
Mound, Texas, upper graduate women.
     Placing second were Nekisha Cobb, Ponchatoula; sophomore women; Darell Haynes,
Luling, freshmen men; and Tom Irwin, New Orleans, upper graduate men. Philip Miller,
Denham Springs, took third place in the freshmen men division.
     The finalist were from the voice studios of Southeastern music faculty Scharmal Schrock,
Stephen Rushing, John Bostic, and Emily Truckenbrod.
     Students who advanced to the second round of competition were John Bruce, Luling;
Wendy Kinchen, Ponchatoula; Haydee Kurr, Mandeville; Jonathan Moore, Zachary; Sarah
Osterberger, Baton Rouge; Heather Rains, Tomball, Texas; Marsha Scott, Ponchatoula; Robin
Smith, LaPlace; and Maria Thomas, Metairie.
     Participating in the preliminary round were Thomas Cannon, Killona; Rachel Desselles,
Denham Springs; Nicole LeBlanc, Mandeville; Courtney Lowe, Baton Rouge; and Christina
Villalobos, Chalmette.
