NASA OFFERS SPACE AGE TECHNOLOGY FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Small Business Development
Center and Business Resource Center and the Louisiana Technology Transfer Office have
teamed up with NASA to bring you information on NASA's Technology Transfer Program
A Technology Transfer seminar will be held on Tuesday June 10, 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the
University Center. Cost for the seminar is $10.
Small businesses can learn how technology, developed for the nation's space and defense
programs, can assist with their technological needs.
Space centers in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi are organized into the Southeast
Technology Transfer Alliance, whose purpose is to get what NASA knows into the hands of
business and public sector agencies where it can create new jobs and services.
Members of the Transfer Alliance will demonstrate how other Louisiana companies have
already taken advantage of this opportunity. NASA's Stennis Space Center has assisted Lea Pies
(Lecompte, La.) with a more improved method of shipping frozen pies and Cryopolymers, Inc.
(St. Francisville, La.) in devising a tire recycling system. Technology developed for NASA is
also finding a down-to-earth application with a packaging equipment manufacturer, Custom
Equipment Design (Monroe, La.). The nation's offshore oil and gas industry may see
improvement in its piping systems thanks to work being accomplished through NASA's Marshall
Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. NASA is also assisting Speciality Plastics, Inc. (Baton
Rouge, La.) in developing innovative joining and fitting technologies for advanced composite
piping systems for U.S. oil and gas industry.
To tap into NASA's expertise, register for the Technology Transfer seminar by calling the
Small Business Development Center at 549-3831.
