SLU DANCEWORKS PRESENTS "MOVING OUT LOUD"
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Danceworks will present "Moving
Out Loud," a concert of 12 dances by student choreographers, at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in D Vickers
Hall's Vonnie Borden Theatre.
"We call the concert 'Moving Out Loud' because each piece represents a point of view,
expressed through movement, voice, visuals, poetry or music," said Martie Fellom, director of
Danceworks and Southeastern's dance program.
Fellom said the audience will find both the beginning and end of the concert will be
particularly memorable. "For the first time, a piece 'Weights and Scales' by Lillian Gray of
Slidell will be performed in the lobby before the concert," she explained. The concert's final
piece, also called 'Moving Out Loud,' was designed by and will feature the entire Danceworks
ensemble. "It will be remembered by all members of the audience," Fellom predicted.
Also on the concert's program are:
"Temporal Nymphs," choreographed by Alison Maraman of Zachary. Inspired by a
poem by Southeastern Honors Program student Leigh Camacho of Hammond, the work
concerns the concept of time. It will be performed by Maraman, Tessa Merrill of Pittsboro,
N.C., Felicia Indest of Ponchatoula, Nathalie Croix of Paris, France, and Casey Cooper of
Boston, Mass.
"Linda," choreographed by Dennis Sardenga of New Orleans. This work about a son
and his mother will be performed by Sardenga and Lesley Kernan of Pairieville.
"Nothing but...Empty?", choreographed by Jennifer "J.B." Buck of New Orleans.
Based on a poem written by Buck, the work depicts the choreographer's feeling of emptiness

after her father's death. Dancers are Sardenga, Merrill, Laura Read of Belle Chasse, Jill Munsch
of Poplarville, Miss., Jonathan Magee of Elk River, Minn., Melissa Green of Laplace, Dara
Drucker of New Orleans, Donya Chavenel of Laplace, and Nichole Brown of Tickfaw.
"Jon & Marshal," choreographed by Gray. A humorous piece about relationships, it is
danced by Peter Simon of Hammond and Kat Duvic of Mandeville.
Gray also has choreographed "Farewell," a work based on Allen Ginsberg's poem, "The
Kaddish," about his mother's life and death. Dancers are Gray, Brown, Cooper, Jonathan Wong
of Hammond, Regina White of Mt. Herman, Steve Weber of Hammond, Sharon Larroux of
Metairie, and Misty Burns of Harvey.
"Americans," choreographed by Heather Breland of Abita Springs. Fellom cautions
that this piece is combined with visual images of drug use, prostitution and child abuse, "which,
sadly, exist in our country," Fellom said. Dancers are Breland, Merrill and Felicia Indest of
Ponchatoula.
"Unidentical," choreographed by Carolyn Fulton of Reserve. The choreographer, who
is a twin, has used this experience as her theme. She is joined by Grace Latino of Metairie.
"Getting to Know You," choreographed Gray and Brown. The choreographers are also
the dancers in the work about getting to know new people.
"Footwork." A humorous work, it was designed and is danced by the whole ensemble.
"The Puppetmaster," choreographed by Jennifer Molero of New Orleans. The piece
interprets Molero's poem about overcoming manipulation and control. Dancers are Molero,
Chavenel, Kristen Schoen of Covington and Chandra Sanders of Prairieville.
Tickets for "Moving Out Loud" can be purchased at the door one hour before the show.
General admission is $5, $3 for senior citizens and Southeastern faculty, staff and students. The
concert is sponsored by Southeastern's Kinesiology and Health Studies Department. For
