SOUTHEASTERN VICE PRESIDENT NAMED PROVOST
HAMMOND -- Dr. Randy Moffett, Southeastern Louisiana University's vice president
for planning, research and development, has been named provost, the university's highest
academic post.
"Dr. Moffett has been dedicated to Southeastern and students for many years,"
Southeastern President Sally Clausen said in announcing Moffett's appointment. "He has a strong
grasp of Southeastern's past and a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing
the university. He is an asset to Southeastern, higher education and the community."
The appointment is effective immediately, pending final approval by the University of
Louisiana System Board of Trustees at its June meeting.
"Dr. Moffett is one of the hardest working people I know," said Dr. James Caillier,
president of the University of Louisiana System. "He has a sincere appreciation of the academic
side of the university. I am confident he will be a great academic leader, and I look forward to
working with him."
Dr. Moffett replaces former provost Ronald Zaccari, who will become president of West
Liberty State University in West Virginia.
"I am extremely proud of the opportunity to serve our students, faculty and staff," Moffett
said in responce to his appointment. "Southeastern is a special place to me and I will work to the
best of my ability to fulfill the many challenges."
Dr. Moffett, a Jonesboro Hodge High graduate with degrees from Louisiana Tech,
Northwestern State University and LSU, joined Southeastern's staff in 1976 as assistant registrar.
Since that time he has risen in faculty ranks while serving as director of continuing education,
head of the education department, dean of the College of Education, vice president and now
provost.
After receiving his bachelor of arts degree in social studies from Louisiana Tech in 1969,
Moffett began his career in education as a high school teacher in the Jackson Parish school
system. In 1971 he received a master's degree in student personnel service at Northwestern where
he had joined the staff as director of high school relations and assistant director of external affairs.
In 1980, Moffett received a doctorate in educational administration at LSU.
Moffett is a member of numerous professional and academic organizations, including Phi
Beta Sigma National Honor Society, American Association of University Administrators,
American Educational Research Association, National Conference of Professors of Educational
Administration, American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and Phi Delta Kappa.
Moffett is married to the former Barbara Spruill, the daughter of Mrs. Edgar L. Spruill of
Jonesboro.
