SEVEN VIE FOR MISS SOUTHEASTERN CROWN
     HAMMOND -- Joy Younger, Miss Southeastern 1997, will crown her successor at the
university's 34th annual pageant on March 5.
     The pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium. Admission
is $5 for the general public and free to Southeastern students.
     Seven Southeastern students will compete for the "Miss Southeastern" honor, which has
been awarded since 1949. The Miss Southeastern pageant has been a Miss America preliminary
since 1962.
     The theme of the 1998 pageant, sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, is "Music of
the Night." Emcees Bruce and Charlotte Bennett will perform selections from Andrew Lloyd
Webber's "Phantom of the Opera," accompanied by Southeastern alumnus Don Gros. Additional
entertainment will be provided by A Touch of Class dance studio.
     Contestants are senior chemistry/microbiology major Catherine Marse diBenedetto of
Hammond, daughter of Nick and Phyllis diBenedetto; senior organizational communication
major Aimee Denise Jenkins of Ponchatoula, daughter of Phillip and Bonnie Jenkins; senior
communications major Angelina Michelle Maranto of Addis, daughter of Alise Franklin and
Maurice Maranto.
     Also, freshman music performance major Stacie Lynne Reed of Baton Rouge, daughter
of Stephen and Sheila Reed; junior general studies major Sabrina Seal of Franklinton, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William Seals; senior kinesiology-health promotion major Susan Marie
Valentine of Zachary, daughter of Ronald and Sue Valentine, and sophomore mass
communication major Andrea Williams of Walker, daughter of Randy and Brenda Williams.
