SLU'S INTERNATIONAL MBA PROGRAMS A SUCCESS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's master of business administration
program has taken on an international flavor.
The MBA program offers its students the opportunity to study abroad as part of their
Master's degree, which gives graduate students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and
improve their language skills. "The students can take this study period at a foreign institution of
higher education either during the normal course of the student's degree or as a post-degree year
of study, giving the student the possibility of earning an additional degree from the school
attended," said Brad O'Hara, director of the MBA program.
O'Hara notes that France is a country of special interest to the people of Louisiana due to
their French heritage and one that is very popular with his students. "Enthusiasm is great on both
sides of the Atlantic to strengthen the bonds between peoples of French ancestry," said O'Hara.
"A period of study in France offers the student the chance to learn more about the Economic
Community and to gain first-hand experience in European business practices. In addition,
students have an opportunity to benefit from a country rich in culture."
Ecole Superieure de Commerce Montpelier, a business school in the central part of
Southern France, welcomes SLU students to attend its own MBA program for either one
semester or one year. In addition to the traditional one-semester and one year abroad options,

ESC Normandie, situated on two campuses in Northern France, offers a summer program
specifically designed for foreign students and taught in English. The course introduces students
to business-related aspects of the European Union through seminars and work groups and
concludes with a visit to Brussels and Paris.
O'Hara notes that Austria, with its recent entry into the European Community, faces a
prosperous and eventful future. Johannes Kepler University, located on the banks of the River
Danube in the central Austrian city of Linz, offers departments of business, economics, law and
technology that are renowned for their excellence in teaching and research. Following
completion of an SLU degree, an MBA student may choose to add one year of study at Johannes
Kepler University.
Graduate students Sharon Hebert of River Ridge and Domingo Mohedano of Spain
recently spent four weeks in Normandie as part of their graduate work. "It was the most
incredible, educational opportunity," said Hebert. "We spent four weeks learning nine core
modules of European business, along with cultural trips to Brussels and Paris on the side, and
really learned so many aspects of the European business community."
Hebert said that her experiences studying abroad prompted her interest in international
business. "I am really interested now in doing business overseas," she said. "Now that I've got the
business part, I just have to learn a language and I'm ready!"
Mohedano hopes to combine his European and American business knowledge to excel in
Europe. "I have learned so much as Southeastern. Now I can return home, and already know a
great deal about European business. I feel I'll be a step ahead of my peers."
