LIONETTES PLACE EIGHTH IN NATION
HAMMOND In only their second year of national competition, Southeastern Louisiana
University's Lionette dance team placed eighth in Division I of the 2002 College Cheerleading
and Dance Team National Championship in Orlando, Fla.
The Lionettes performed to a medley of Broadway show tunes including "The Joint is
Jumping," "Annie," and "Big Spender" in the competition held at the Walt Disney World Resort
last month.
"The dance team has come a long way in a short time," said Dana Brewer-Plazinic,
Southeastern dance instructor and Lionette advisor. "Three years ago, no one knew who we were
and now we are ranked eighth nationally. The girls were so excited to make it to the finals and it
showed in their performance."
According to Melissa Bordelon, Lionette co-advisor, Southeastern has made a
commitment over the past two years in funding partial tuition scholarships for Lionettes, along
with travel and new costumes.
"With talented dancers and the university backing us, the Lionettes are sure to go far!"
said Bordelon.
Tryouts for next year's team have been scheduled for April 13 at the Student Activity
Center. Contact Bordelon at lionettes@selu.edu or
